Mandatory IMEI Registration for Mobile Devices in Sri Lanka

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has introduced a mandatory IMEI registration system for all mobile devices, effective from January 28, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance telecommunication network security and mitigate device-related fraudulent activities.

From the designated date, mobile devices with unregistered IMEI numbers will cease to function on Sri Lankan telecommunication networks. However, devices already connected to local networks prior to this date will be exempt from the new requirement.

To avoid potential connectivity issues, TRCSL advises consumers to purchase devices with registered IMEI numbers. Users can verify their device's IMEI registration status by sending an SMS with the format "IMEI <15-digit IMEI number>" to 1909.

For more information, users can contact TRCSL via the hotline 1900 or visit their official website at www.trc.gov.lk. It is essential for mobile phone users in Sri Lanka to take note of this development and ensure compliance to avoid any disruptions to their mobile services.
